Welcome to SORBA-Huntsville

Welcome to the website of the first SORBA chapter in Alabama.   Our local trails include Monte Sano State Park; the Land Trust of Huntsville and North Alabama Wade Mt. and Monte Sano Preserve; and City of Huntsville Hays Preserve. Our major activities include group rides and monthly trail work days.  From 2004, we have given over 1,934.5 man hours to improving our local trails.

Back in August 2003, a bunch of bikers decided to give a little something back to the park. We started having trail days once a month at the state park.  Next thing we know the park hosts an IMBA Trail School in March 2004. Over sixty people came and learned "sustainable" trail building and maintenance.  The Trail Care Crew got it into our head that we needed to become an organized group and not just a bunch of volunteers.  The ball was now rolling and we affiliated ourselves with the local cycling club: Spring City Cycling Club.

Fall 2004, two important things happened.  First, a couple of us went to SORBA's Nimblewill MTB Festival and board of directors meeting to check SORBA out.  Then the park hosted yet another trail school!  Mike Riter of  Trail Design Specialists, the original IMBA Trail Care Crew, came and taught an advanced course.   These two events cemented it for us.  In November, a lot of local bikers got together and decided that the next chapter of SORBA would be Huntsville.   We petitioned the SORBA board, and the rest is history.
